Overview

CERVAVAC is India's first indigenous quadrivalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) in partnership with the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The vaccine is composed of recombinant virus-like particles (VLPs) based on the L1 protein of HPV types 6, 11, 16, and 18. It is indicated for the prevention of cervical, vulvar, vaginal, and anal cancers, as well as genital warts and associated precancerous or dysplastic lesions in both females and males aged 9 through 26. CERVAVAC is designed to provide a cost-effective alternative to existing HPV vaccines, facilitating broader access to cervical cancer prevention programs.
