GammaTile is a surgically targeted radiation therapy (STaRT) system consisting of a bioresorbable collagen tile embedded with Cesium-131 radioactive seeds. It is designed for permanent implantation into the surgical cavity immediately following the resection of brain tumors. The Cesium-131 isotope delivers high-dose, short-range brachytherapy directly to the tumor bed, targeting residual malignant cells while sparing healthy surrounding brain tissue. Developed by GT Medical Technologies, GammaTile is FDA-cleared for the treatment of newly diagnosed malignant intracranial neoplasms and recurrent intracranial neoplasms, including glioblastomas, meningiomas, and brain metastases.
