Cetacaine

Cetacaine is a prescription topical anesthetic combination developed and marketed by Cetylite Industries. It contains three active small molecule ingredients: benzocaine (14%), butamben (2%), and tetracaine hydrochloride (2%). These agents work synergistically to produce rapid-onset anesthesia (within 30 seconds) by reversibly blocking voltage-gated sodium channels, thereby inhibiting nerve conduction. It is indicated for use on all accessible mucous membranes (except the eyes) to provide local anesthesia during dental and medical procedures, suppress the gag reflex, and facilitate endoscopic or surgical interventions in the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. The duration of anesthesia typically lasts 30 to 60 minutes when used as directed.
