Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cetirizine + acetaminophen is a fixed-dose combination of the second-generation antihistamine cetirizine and the analgesic/antipyretic acetaminophen (paracetamol). It is widely used to provide multi-symptom relief for the common cold, flu, and allergic rhinitis. Cetirizine acts as a selective antagonist of peripheral histamine H1 receptors, effectively reducing allergy and cold symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes. Acetaminophen reduces pain and fever by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system, primarily through the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes. Together, this combination targets both histaminergic and pain/fever pathways to alleviate symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections.
