cetraxate hydrochloride

Cetraxate hydrochloride is a small molecule oral gastroprotective agent developed by Daiichi Pharmaceutical (now Daiichi Sankyo) and marketed under the brand name Neuer. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of gastric ulcers, acute gastritis, and acute exacerbations of chronic gastritis. The drug functions by enhancing the gastric mucosal barrier through the stimulation of mucin synthesis and secretion, increasing mucosal blood flow, and potentially activating capsaicin-sensitive afferent nerves. In addition to its gastroprotective effects, cetraxate hydrochloride is a potent inhibitor of acrosin, an acrosomal proteinase involved in sperm-egg interaction. It has also been evaluated in combination therapies for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori.
