Overview
Cetrorelix is a synthetic decapeptide and a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist. It competitively binds to GnRH receptors on pituitary cells, inhibiting the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). This action prevents premature ovulation in women undergoing controlled ovarian stimulation for assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). Cetrorelix does not cause an initial surge of gonadotropins, distinguishing it from GnRH agonists. The drug is administered by subcutaneous injection and has rapid onset of action. It is primarily indicated for the prevention of premature LH surges during fertility treatment[2][4][5][7][10].
