Overview

Cetuximab + irinotecan or panitumumab refers to the use of either cetuximab in combination with irinotecan, or the use of panitumumab, for the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), particularly in patients with K-Ras wild-type, EGFR-expressing tumors. Cetuximab and panitumumab are monoclonal antibodies that target the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), inhibiting its activation and downstream signaling pathways involved in tumor cell proliferation and survival[1][2][6]. Irinotecan is a small molecule chemotherapeutic agent that inhibits topoisomerase I, leading to DNA damage and apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells[5]. These regimens are primarily used when standard chemotherapy has failed or as part of combination therapy protocols for advanced colorectal cancer.
