Overview

TIP-Centre Leon Berard-penile carcinoma refers to a combination chemotherapy and targeted therapy regimen being evaluated in a randomized Phase II clinical trial for the treatment of metastatic penile squamous cell carcinoma. The regimen consists of cetuximab, a chimeric monoclonal antibody that targets the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), combined with the TIP chemotherapy backbone. The TIP components include paclitaxel (a microtubule stabilizer), ifosfamide (an alkylating agent), and cisplatin (a platinum-based DNA cross-linking agent). This therapeutic approach, sponsored by the Centre Leon Berard in Lyon, France, aims to enhance the cytotoxic activity of standard cisplatin-based chemotherapy by inhibiting EGFR signaling, which is frequently overexpressed in penile cancer and associated with poor prognosis. The trial compares the efficacy and safety of this four-drug combination against the TIP regimen alone.
