Cetuximab-IRDye 800CW is an immunoconjugate composed of the recombinant chimeric monoclonal antibody cetuximab covalently linked to the near-infrared fluorescent dye IRDye 800CW via an N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) ester linkage. Cetuximab targets and binds specifically to the extracellular domain of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), which is overexpressed in various tumor types. The conjugation with IRDye 800CW enables real-time intraoperative fluorescence imaging for tumor visualization and surgical navigation. This agent is primarily being developed as an optical imaging agent to aid in identifying tumor margins during surgery, particularly in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and malignant glioma[1][4][5][6][8]. The mechanism of action involves both EGFR binding for tumor targeting and fluorescence emission from IRDye 800CW for image-guided surgery.
