Cetuximab nanoparticles (Abdellatif) is an investigational oral drug delivery system designed for the targeted treatment of colorectal cancer. Developed by researcher Ahmed A. H. Abdellatif, the formulation consists of pH-sensitive polymeric nanoparticles (such as calcium alginate or PEG-based) loaded with cetuximab, a recombinant monoclonal antibody that inhibits the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). To enhance specificity, the nanoparticles are decorated with octreotide, a somatostatin analogue that targets somatostatin receptors (SSTRs) frequently overexpressed in colon cancer cells. This oral delivery approach is intended to provide localized treatment to the gastrointestinal tract, potentially increasing therapeutic efficacy at the tumor site while minimizing the systemic side effects typically associated with intravenous cetuximab administration.
