Cetuximab sarotalocan sodium is an **antibody-drug conjugate (ADC)** combining the anti-EGFR chimeric monoclonal antibody cetuximab (IgG1 subclass) with the photosensitizer sarotalocan sodium (a phthalocyanine derivative, IR700). The conjugate binds to **epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)** on the surface of tumor cells. Upon irradiation with a 690 nm laser (BioBlade laser system), the photosensitizer is activated, triggering rapid and selective tumor cell death by photoimmunotherapy. This mechanism leverages both antibody targeting and light-induced cytotoxicity. Developed with the Illuminox platform, the therapy is indicated and approved in Japan for **unresectable locally advanced or recurrent head and neck cancer** and is under investigation for additional solid tumor types including cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma and esophageal cancer[1][2][5][7][8].
