Cetylpyridinium chloride + sodium fluoride is a combination oral care agent typically formulated as a mouthrinse. Cetylpyridinium chloride is a quaternary ammonium antiseptic that binds to bacterial cell membranes, disrupting membrane integrity, leading to cell death and exhibiting bactericidal activity, particularly against oral Gram-positive bacteria. Sodium fluoride is an inorganic compound that inhibits demineralization and promotes the remineralization of tooth enamel by forming fluorapatite, which is less soluble in acid, thereby preventing dental caries. Clinical studies show that combining cetylpyridinium chloride with sodium fluoride augments oral hygiene by providing both antibacterial action and protection against enamel demineralisation without diminishing the efficacy of either component. This combination is widely used in mouthrinses for the prevention of dental caries and reduction of dental plaque and gingivitis[1][2][5][6].
