Cetylpyridinium chloride + zinc is a fixed-dose combination of two active ingredients commonly used in oral care products such as mouthwashes and rinses. Cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) is a cationic quaternary ammonium compound with broad-spectrum antiseptic properties that acts by disrupting microbial cell membranes and killing bacteria. Zinc salts (commonly as zinc chloride) have antimicrobial activity and can inhibit the growth of oral bacteria associated with halitosis (bad breath), gingivitis, peri-implant disease, and dental plaque formation. The combination has been shown to have synergistic effects in inhibiting bacterial growth implicated in oral diseases such as gingivitis and halitosis[1][2][3][4]. These products are available over-the-counter for the prevention of dental plaque buildup, reduction of gingivitis symptoms, control of bleeding gums due to minor irritation or inflammation from dental appliances or procedures[3][5].
