CEVA-D is a novel bioreactor technology platform being developed by Cellvation, Inc., a subsidiary of Fortress Biotech, in collaboration with the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). It is designed to enhance the anti-inflammatory potency of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) for the treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI). The technology utilizes a process called mechano-transduction, which applies physical forces to cells within the bioreactor to upregulate their therapeutic potential without the need for genetic manipulation. CEVA-D is currently in preclinical development, with research demonstrating that cells processed through the system show increased anti-inflammatory activity and therapeutic efficacy in experimental models of injury. Unlike Cellvation's lead candidate CEVA101, which is a specific cell therapy product, CEVA-D represents a platform technology for optimizing cell-based treatments.
