Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cevira (APL-1702) is a first-in-class, non-surgical photodynamic drug-device combination product developed for the treatment of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) of the cervix, including all human papillomavirus (HPV) subtypes. The therapy consists of a photosensitizer applied locally to the cervix and activated by a light source integrated into the device. Upon activation, reactive oxygen species are generated that selectively destroy abnormal cervical cells while sparing healthy tissue. This approach aims to provide an effective alternative to surgical excision procedures such as LEEP or conization, reducing risks like bleeding, infection, scarring, infertility, and pregnancy complications. Phase III clinical trials have demonstrated significant efficacy in histological regression and HPV clearance with good safety outcomes[1][3][5][6]. The product is intended for gynecologist placement and patient removal without disrupting daily activities.
