Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CfaEp3 (CfaEB-CsuA2-CsfA) is a recombinant fusion protein vaccine candidate designed to prevent diarrhea caused by Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC). Developed by Naval Medical Research SOUTH (formerly NAMRU-6), the vaccine is based on the CFA/I adhesin-pilin fusion (CfaEB) fused to the pilins of colonization factors CS14 (CsuA2) and CS4 (CsfA). It is designed to generate broad cross-protection against members of ETEC subclass 5a fimbriae. In preclinical studies using a non-human primate challenge model, CfaEp3 administered intradermally with a dmLT adjuvant demonstrated protective efficacy against CS14+ ETEC challenge.
