Overview

CG-1521 is an investigational **small-molecule histone deacetylase inhibitor** being studied preclinically as an antineoplastic epigenetic modulator for difficult-to-treat breast cancers and prostate cancer. It inhibits HDAC enzymatic activity, leading to increased acetylation of proteins including p53 and altered expression of genes involved in cell-cycle control, growth arrest, and apoptosis. Reported studies describe antiproliferative activity with induction of cell-cycle arrest and apoptotic cell death in breast and prostate cancer cell lines. The compound has also been noted to have poor aqueous solubility, which has motivated work on nanoparticle-based formulations to improve bioavailability and therapeutic index. No clearly identified commercial brand name, manufacturer, or active clinical-stage developer was established from the provided context.
