Overview

**CG1940 + CG8711** is a combination immunotherapeutic composed of two allogeneic prostate cancer cell lines, **PC-3 (CG1940)** and **LNCaP (CG8711)**, each genetically modified to secrete granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (**GM-CSF**). This cellular vaccine (marketed as **GVAX** for prostate cancer) is designed to present multiple prostate cancer antigens to the patient’s immune system, with GM-CSF acting to enhance antigen presentation by recruiting and activating dendritic cells. This facilitates a multi-antigen T cell-mediated anti-tumor immune response. Developed primarily for use in patients with advanced prostate cancer, especially in settings where immunotherapeutic strategies are investigated as alternatives or adjuncts to chemotherapeutic regimens. Development included both phase II and phase III trials, though phase III was terminated for futility after interim analysis showed insufficient improvement in survival compared to chemotherapy[2][4][5][7].
