CG8123 is an autologous, whole-cell cancer vaccine developed by Cell Genesys as part of the GVAX platform. It consists of a patient's own lung cancer cells that have been genetically modified using a viral vector to secrete human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and then irradiated to prevent further cell division. The vaccine is administered intradermally to stimulate the recruitment and maturation of dendritic cells at the injection site. These antigen-presenting cells then process the full repertoire of tumor-associated antigens from the irradiated cells and migrate to regional lymph nodes to induce a systemic, T-cell mediated anti-tumor immune response. CG8123 was primarily investigated for the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), including bronchioloalveolar carcinoma (BAC). Clinical development was discontinued following Phase II trials that failed to demonstrate significant anti-tumor activity in these settings.
