Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CGBOSE-50 is an oral anti-diabetic formulation of acarbose (50 mg) developed and manufactured by CMG Biotech (CMG Pharmaceuticals). Acarbose is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor that works locally in the small intestine. It competitively and reversibly inhibits membrane-bound intestinal alpha-glucosidase enzymes (such as maltase-glucoamylase and sucrase-isomaltase) as well as pancreatic alpha-amylase. By delaying the enzymatic hydrolysis of complex carbohydrates into absorbable monosaccharides, it slows down glucose absorption and reduces postprandial blood glucose spikes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
