Overview

CGN-002 is an investigational phosphate binder being developed by CitraGen Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of hyperphosphatemia in patients with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). Hyperphosphatemia, characterized by elevated serum phosphorus levels, is a common and serious complication in patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis, contributing to secondary hyperparathyroidism and cardiovascular calcification. As a phosphate binder, CGN-002 is designed to be administered orally to sequester dietary phosphate within the gastrointestinal tract. By forming insoluble complexes with phosphate ions, the agent prevents their absorption into the systemic circulation, thereby facilitating their excretion in the feces and helping to maintain serum phosphorus levels within the target range. CGN-002 is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
