CGS-200-5 is a topical analgesic formulation containing 5% capsaicin as the active ingredient. It is designed for the treatment of osteoarthritic knee pain and has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials. Capsaicin acts as an agonist of the TRPV1 (transient receptor potential vanilloid 1) receptor, leading to desensitization of sensory neurons and subsequent reduction in pain sensation. In clinical studies, CGS-200-5 demonstrated significant efficacy in reducing WOMAC pain scores compared to vehicle control, with effects persisting up to three months post-treatment.
