Overview

The CH5-HK H5N1 avian influenza vaccine is a monovalent stockpile vaccine candidate developed under the auspices of the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) Strategic Center of Biomedical Advanced Vaccine Research and Development for Preparedness and Response (SCARDA). It is specifically designed to provide protection against the H5N1 avian influenza virus, targeting the clade 2.3.4.4b lineage, which has demonstrated significant pandemic potential due to its widespread transmission in avian and mammalian populations. The vaccine contains 3.75 micrograms of hemagglutinin (HA) per 0.5 mL dose and is administered as a two-dose intramuscular regimen. It is currently undergoing Phase II clinical evaluation in Japan to determine its safety and immunogenicity profile in healthy adults, serving as a critical component of the national preparedness strategy for potential avian influenza outbreaks.
