Overview

CH505w78 is a recombinant HIV-1 envelope gp120 protein subunit vaccine candidate developed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). It is derived from the CH505 lineage, which represents the co-evolution of the HIV-1 virus and broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs) in an infected individual. Specifically, CH505w78 corresponds to the viral envelope sequence isolated 78 weeks post-infection. In clinical development, it is typically administered as part of a sequential immunization strategy (alongside other CH505 variants like CH505TF and CH505w53) adjuvanted with GLA-SE. The goal of this sequential approach is to guide the immune system to develop bNAbs by mimicking the natural maturation process of the B-cell response observed in the original patient.
