Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cha-miang extract is a botanical preparation derived from *Camellia sinensis* var. *assamica*, a variety of tea plant native to Northern Thailand. The extract is rich in polyphenols, specifically catechins and their derivatives, which contribute to its potent antioxidant, anti-obesity, and anti-diabetic properties. It is typically studied in two forms: fresh cha-miang extract (CME) and fermented cha-miang extract (FCME). Preclinical research indicates that these extracts can significantly reduce body weight, fat accumulation, and plasma insulin levels while improving lipid profiles by lowering triglycerides and LDL-cholesterol. Furthermore, cha-miang extract has shown potential in mitigating insulin resistance and reducing hepatic fat accumulation, particularly when administered in conjunction with standard metabolic treatments like metformin.
