ChAd3-EBO-Z

The chimpanzee adenovirus type 3-vectored Ebola Zaire vaccine (ChAd3-EBO-Z) is a recombinant, replication-deficient viral-vectored vaccine developed by GSK in collaboration with the NIAID Vaccine Research Center. The vaccine utilizes a chimpanzee adenovirus serotype 3 (ChAd3) vector to deliver the gene encoding the glycoprotein (GP) of the Zaire Ebola virus (Mayinga strain). Upon intramuscular administration, the vector enters host cells and expresses the GP antigen, which is the primary target for eliciting protective humoral and cellular immune responses against Ebola virus disease. Developed using the Okairos platform technology, ChAd3-EBO-Z was a prominent candidate during the 2014-2016 West African Ebola outbreak and has demonstrated safety and immunogenicity in Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials in both adult and pediatric populations.
