Overview

ChAd63 ME-TRAP is an investigational malaria vaccine that uses a heterologous prime-boost strategy with two viral vectors—chimpanzee adenovirus 63 (ChAd63) and Modified Vaccinia Virus Ankara (MVA)—to deliver the multiepitope string fused to thrombospondin-related adhesion protein (ME-TRAP) antigen. The vaccine is designed to induce strong T-cell responses against *Plasmodium falciparum*, targeting the liver stage of the parasite's lifecycle. Clinical trials have shown that while it is safe and immunogenic in both adults and children exposed to malaria, its efficacy in preventing clinical malaria has been limited in highly endemic settings[1][3][5]. The vaccine regimen aims to reduce liver-stage parasite burden by eliciting robust cellular immune responses, particularly IFN-gamma–producing T cells[2][6]. It remains under clinical investigation for malaria prevention.
