ChAdOx1 85A is a simian adenoviral vector vaccine expressing Mycobacterium tuberculosis Antigen 85A. It was developed as a candidate tuberculosis vaccine, primarily intended to boost immunity in individuals previously vaccinated with BCG (Bacille Calmette-Guérin). The vaccine can be administered via aerosol (inhaled) or intramuscular routes, with the target route being aerosol. ChAdOx1 85A has been evaluated in prime-boost regimens, particularly when followed by MVA85A (Modified Vaccinia Ankara expressing Antigen 85A) boost. Preclinical studies demonstrated that ChAdOx1 85A is protective when used as part of a BCG-ChAdOx1 85A-MVA85A immunization regimen. Clinical trials have shown the vaccine to be well-tolerated and immunogenic, inducing Ag85A-specific T cell responses.
