Overview

ChAdOx1 Chik is a candidate vaccine for chikungunya virus (CHIKV) developed using the simian adenovirus vector platform known as ChAdOx1. The vaccine encodes the full-length structural polyprotein of CHIKV, including Capsid, E3, E2, 6k, and E1 proteins. It is designed to induce both humoral and cellular immune responses against CHIKV. In phase 1 clinical trials in healthy adults aged 18–50 years, a single intramuscular dose of ChAdOx1 Chik was shown to be safe and well-tolerated with no serious adverse reactions reported; most adverse events were mild or moderate and self-limiting. The vaccine induced robust IgG and T-cell responses as well as broadly neutralizing antibodies against all four major lineages of CHIKV[1][2][3]. There are currently no licensed vaccines for chikungunya fever.
