Overview
The ChAdOx1 Ebola BDBV Vaccine is an investigational recombinant viral vector vaccine developed by the University of Oxford's Oxford Vaccine Group and Pandemic Sciences Institute. It is specifically designed to provide protection against the Bundibugyo ebolavirus (BDBV), a rare and highly pathogenic strain of the Ebola virus. The vaccine utilizes the ChAdOx1 (Chimpanzee Adenovirus Oxford 1) platform to deliver a BDBV-specific antigen, thereby stimulating both humoral and cellular immune responses. As of July 2026, the vaccine is in early clinical development, with a Phase Ia first-in-human trial (BD-Ebov) launched to evaluate its safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity in healthy adults. The program is supported by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and manufactured in partnership with the Serum Institute of India.
