ChAdOx1-HBV is a therapeutic vaccine candidate designed to induce a functional cure in patients chronically infected with hepatitis B virus (HBV). It uses a non-replicative chimpanzee adenoviral vector (ChAdOx1) to deliver HBV antigens, specifically encoding genotype C HBV core, polymerase, and surface antigens. The vaccine aims to stimulate robust HBV-specific T cell responses targeting all major viral antigens. In phase I clinical studies, ChAdOx1-HBV was found to be safe and well tolerated in both healthy volunteers and patients with chronic hepatitis B infection. The immunogenicity was high in healthy individuals but attenuated in those with chronic infection. Further development includes combination strategies with other immunotherapies to enhance efficacy for chronic hepatitis B[1][2][5].
