Overview

ChAdOx1-HPV is a recombinant, replication-incompetent chimpanzee adenovirus (ChAdOx1) vector-based therapeutic vaccine designed to treat persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infections and associated pre-cancerous lesions. The vaccine encodes DNA for six early proteins (E1, E2, E4, E5, E6, and E7) from five different high-risk HPV strains. Upon administration, the vector delivers these antigens into host cells to elicit a strong antigen-specific T cell immune response against HPV-infected cells. This immunostimulatory approach aims to clear persistent HPV infection and promote regression of low-grade cervical lesions. ChAdOx1-HPV is typically used as the "prime" in a prime-boost regimen with MVA-HPV (a modified vaccinia Ankara vector encoding the same antigens). The vaccine is being developed primarily for women with low-grade cervical lesions due to persistent high-risk HPV infection[1][5][6][7].
