Overview

The ChAdOx1-LcrV vaccine is a viral vector vaccine developed by the University of Oxford to prevent plague, caused by the bacterium *Yersinia pestis*. It utilizes the ChAdOx1 (Chimpanzee Adenovirus Oxford 1) platform, a non-replicating viral vector, to deliver the genetic sequence for the LcrV (Low Calcium Response V) antigen of *Y. pestis*. LcrV is a key component of the type III secretion system, essential for the bacterium's virulence and its ability to evade the host immune system. Upon administration, the vector enters host cells and expresses the LcrV protein, triggering the production of neutralizing antibodies and T-cell responses. This approach aims to provide protection against both bubonic and pneumonic plague, the latter of which is highly lethal and a potential bioterrorism concern.
