Overview

The ChAdOx1 Marburg vaccine is an investigational viral vector vaccine developed and manufactured by researchers at the University of Oxford, led by the Oxford Vaccine Group. It utilizes the ChAdOx1 platform, which is a modified, non-replicating simian (chimpanzee) adenovirus vector technology—the same platform used for the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine is designed to express the Marburg virus glycoprotein (GP) to induce both B and T cell immune responses to protect against Marburg virus disease, a highly virulent hemorrhagic fever caused by a filovirus closely related to Ebola, with a fatality rate of up to 88%. The vaccine is being evaluated in a Phase 1 first-in-human open-label clinical trial (MAGIC-01) in healthy adults aged 18–55 in the United Kingdom, assessing safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity with single or two-dose regimens given 3 months apart. The research is funded by the UK Department of Health and Social Care through the UK Vaccine Network (UKVN).
