Overview

Chaenomeles sinensis extract is derived from the fruit of the Chinese quince, a plant species native to East Asia and traditionally utilized in Korean and Chinese medicine. Research suggests that the extract, particularly its constituent stearic acid methyl ester (SAME), functions as an activator of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT), the enzyme responsible for the biosynthesis of acetylcholine. By enhancing ChAT activity, the extract aims to restore cholinergic function, which is often compromised in neurodegenerative conditions. Preclinical studies in mice have demonstrated that Chaenomeles sinensis extract can significantly improve learning and memory deficits induced by neurotoxins like trimethyltin (TMT), positioning it as a potential therapeutic candidate for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and other cognitive disorders.
