Chaibei Zhixian Decoction (also known as Chaibei Zhixian Granules) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by The Third Affiliated Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. It is primarily investigated as an adjunctive treatment for intractable epilepsy, specifically targeting complex partial seizures. The formula is designed to be administered alongside standardized Western antiepileptic drugs to enhance seizure control and reduce the frequency of episodes in patients who are refractory to conventional monotherapy or standard combinations. While the exact molecular pharmacology of the complete mixture is complex, its primary botanical components, such as *Bupleurum* and *Fritillaria*, are traditionally used to resolve phlegm and extinguish wind, and are hypothesized to exert anticonvulsant effects through the modulation of neurotransmitter systems and neuroprotective pathways.
