Chaihu Huaji Fang

Chaihu Huaji Fang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula derived from the integration of Xiao Chaihu decoction and Hua Ji pill. Traditionally, it is used to soothe the liver, invigorate the spleen, eliminate pathogenic factors, and move qi to dissipate blood stasis. Modern research indicates its potential in alleviating postembolization syndrome (PES) following Transcatheter Arterial Chemoembolization (TACE) for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma, demonstrating improvements in symptoms like fever, nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, and leukocytopenia, and enhancing 3-year overall survival. Its primary ingredient, Chaihu (Bupleurum), and its active components, saikosaponins, have been shown to possess immunomodulatory, antiviral, antipyretic, hepatoprotective, anticancer, sedative, and analgesic properties, partly through mechanisms such as autophagy induction.
