Chaihu Injection

Chaihu Injection is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) injectable preparation derived from the root of *Bupleurum chinense* DC. or *Bupleurum scorzonerifolium* Willd. Produced by Sichuan Sunnyhope Pharmaceutical, it is a steam-distilled herbal extract used primarily for its antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties to treat fever associated with the common cold and influenza. It holds historical significance as the first TCM injection developed in China, dating back to the 1940s. The injection contains volatile oils and other active constituents that are thought to act on the thermoregulatory center to reduce body temperature. In recent years, its clinical use has been strictly regulated by the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), including a 2018 mandate that revised its labeling to explicitly contraindicate its use in children and infants due to the risk of severe allergic reactions and anaphylaxis.
