Overview
Chaihu-jia-Longgu-Muli-tang (CLM) is a classical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula originally described in the 'Shang Han Lun'. It is a multi-herb decoction composed of eleven ingredients, including Radix Bupleuri, Fossilia Ossia Mastodi, and Ostreae Testa. CLM is primarily investigated for the treatment of depressive disorders, including post-stroke depression. Its mechanism of action is thought to involve the upregulation of hippocampal brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and modulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Key active constituents identified include saponins such as saikosaponin a. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials sponsored by institutions like the Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine.
