Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chaihu Oral Liquid is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) preparation derived from the root of *Bupleurum chinense* (Thorowax). Developed by Topfond Pharma (Henan Topfond Pharmaceutical), this oral formulation is traditionally utilized as an antipyretic and diaphoretic to treat fevers and the common cold. Within the framework of TCM theory, *Chaihu* is recognized for its "lifting" properties (*Sheng Yang Ju Xian*), which are applied to treat conditions associated with the "sinking of middle qi," such as uterine prolapse. The pharmacological activity of the extract is primarily attributed to saikosaponins, which exhibit anti-inflammatory effects and may modulate smooth muscle tone. The product is approved in China for clinical use.
