Overview

Chaihu Qinggan Decoction (also known as Chaihu Qinggan Tang) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula originally documented in the Ming Dynasty. It is designed to clear liver fire and resolve depression, making it a standard treatment for inflammatory conditions located along the Liver and Gallbladder meridians, such as the breasts and neck. The formula typically comprises a complex mixture of herbs including *Radix Bupleuri*, *Radix Scutellariae*, and *Radix Gardeniae*. In contemporary clinical research, it is being evaluated for its efficacy in treating various forms of non-lactational mastitis, including granulomatous mastitis and acne mastitis. Clinical trials often compare its effectiveness to corticosteroids like prednisolone or use it as an adjunct to surgical interventions like minimally invasive lavage. Its therapeutic effects are attributed to its broad anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties.
