Overview

Chaihu Qinggan Tang (CHQGT) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula traditionally used to treat inflammatory and infectious conditions associated with the Liver and Gallbladder channels, specifically those classified under 'Liver Channel Heat Accumulation Syndrome.' The formula is currently being investigated as a therapeutic intervention for granulomatous mastitis (GM), a chronic, benign inflammatory disease of the breast that often mimics carcinoma. CHQGT is composed of multiple herbal ingredients, typically including *Bupleuri Radix* (Chaihu), *Scutellariae Radix* (Huangqin), and *Gardeniae Fructus* (Shanzhi), which collectively exert anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and analgesic effects. In clinical research, it is often evaluated as an alternative or adjunct to corticosteroid therapy (such as methylprednisolone) to achieve disease remission and reduce recurrence rates while avoiding the systemic side effects associated with long-term steroid use.
