Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chaihu Shugan San (CSS) is a classical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula widely used for soothing the liver and regulating qi. It typically consists of seven herbs: *Bupleurum chinense* (Chaihu), *Citrus reticulata* (Chenpi), *Ligusticum chuanxiong* (Chuanxiong), *Cyperus rotundus* (Xiangfu), *Citrus aurantium* (Zhiqiao), *Paeonia lactiflora* (Shaoyao), and *Glycyrrhiza uralensis* (Gancao). It is primarily indicated for conditions associated with Liver Qi Stagnation, including major depressive disorder, functional dyspepsia, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and erectile dysfunction. Research suggests its mechanisms involve regulating lipid metabolism and inflammatory damage via the activation of SIRT1, as well as modulating brain networks, particularly the limbic system, to address psychological and functional disorders.
