Overview
Chaijin Jieyu Anshen is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by the Hunan University of Chinese Medicine for the treatment of depression, specifically targeting the Liver Qi Stagnation and Heart-Spleen Deficiency pattern. The formula is primarily composed of Radix Bupleuri (Chaihu) and Radix Curcumae (Yujin), which are traditionally recognized for their ability to resolve stagnation and calm the spirit. Pharmacological studies indicate that the drug works by regulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, reducing serum corticosterone levels, and increasing the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the hippocampus. Additionally, it modulates the monoamine neurotransmitter system, enhancing levels of serotonin (5-HT), dopamine (DA), and norepinephrine (NE). It is typically administered as oral granules and has undergone Phase 2 clinical evaluation in China.
