Overview

Chaiyin is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation used primarily for the treatment of influenza and upper respiratory tract infections associated with exogenous wind-heat syndrome. It is available in various forms including granules, oral liquid, and particles. The formula is derived from classical TCM prescriptions such as Chaigu Jieyi decoction and Yinqiao powder. Its mechanism of action involves clearing heat and detoxification; it exhibits anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects by inhibiting the release of inflammatory cytokines like IL-6 and TNF-α. Network pharmacology studies suggest that key active components may block viral targets such as ACE2 via compounds like fortunellin and baicalin. The main indications are influenza (including mild flu) and upper respiratory tract infections presenting with symptoms such as fever with aversion to wind, headache, sore throat (pharyngalgia), sweating, runny nose (snuffle), cough, red tongue with thin yellow coating[1][2][3][4].
