Chamaecyparis obtusa leaf extract, derived from the Japanese cypress (Hinoki), is a botanical ingredient containing bioactive compounds such as flavonoids (amentoflavone, ginkgetin), terpenes, and phytoncides. It is primarily utilized in cosmetic and topical formulations for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties. Research indicates that the extract may inhibit STAT3 and JAK/STAT signaling pathways, suggesting potential therapeutic applications in inflammatory skin conditions and certain cancers, including breast and colorectal cancer. While investigated in research settings, it is not currently an approved pharmaceutical drug for these indications.
