Overview

**Chamaejasmine** is a naturally occurring biflavonoid mainly found in plants such as Stellera chamaejasme and Wikstroemia dolichantha. It has shown multiple pharmacological activities, including **anti-inflammatory** effects (notably in topical models of atopic dermatitis), and **antiproliferative/anticancer** effects in various cancer cell lines (such as osteosarcoma, cervical, lung, liver, and larynx cancer). For atopic dermatitis, chamaejasmine restores skin barrier function, reduces serum IgE and interleukin-4 levels, and reduces itching, dryness, erythema, and edema when applied topically. Its anti-cancer mechanisms include inducing apoptosis through both intrinsic (mitochondrial) and extrinsic (death receptor) pathways, involving altered Bcl-2/Bax ratios, cytochrome c release, and caspase 3 and caspase 9 activation. It also suppresses PI3K/Akt signaling in certain cancers[1][4][6].
