chamomilla tincture

Chamomilla tincture mouthwash is a herbal pharmaceutical developed by Mashhad University of Medical Sciences for the treatment of recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). Derived from the fluid extract of *Chamomilla recutita* (German chamomile), its primary active constituents include chamazulene and azulene, along with various flavonoids. The drug exerts its therapeutic effects through anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibacterial, and antifungal activities. Specifically, chamazulene inhibits leukotriene B4 synthesis and the peroxidation of arachidonic acid in neutrophils, thereby reducing inflammation and pain associated with oral ulcers. Clinical evaluation in a Phase 1 trial demonstrated its efficacy in controlling pain and burning sensations in patients with RAS without significant adverse effects.
