Overview

Changma Xifeng Pian (CMXF) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) multi-herb formulation developed for the treatment of Tourette syndrome (TS) and other pediatric tic disorders. It is a multi-component herbal tablet containing at least 21 identified chemical constituents, including gallic acid, gastrodin, catechin, sibiricose A3, paeoniflorin, parishin B, and tenuifoliside B. The formulation is designed to calm the liver, suppress wind, resolve phlegm, and restore visceral balance according to TCM principles. Pharmacologically, it acts on multiple biological targets, including the androgen receptor (AR), metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (GRM5), hepatocyte growth factor receptor (MET), and serotonin receptor 2A (HTR2A). It has been evaluated in clinical trials, often in combination with Western medicines like tiapride, for the management of moderate tic disorders in children.
