Overview
Changpu Yujin Tang is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula originally documented in the Qing Dynasty text *Wenbing Tiaobian* (Systematized Identification of Warm Diseases). The formula primarily consists of *Acorus tatarinowii* (Shichangpu) and *Curcuma aromatica* (Yujin), often supplemented with other herbs such as *Gardenia jasminoides* and *Bambusa textilis*. It is traditionally indicated for conditions involving 'phlegm-heat' obstructing the orifices, manifesting as coma, delirium, or seizures. In modern clinical research, it is being investigated as an adjunctive therapy for **convulsive status epilepticus (CSE)** and other neurological emergencies. The formula is thought to exert neuroprotective effects by modulating neurotransmitter systems, reducing cerebral edema, and suppressing neuroinflammatory responses following prolonged seizure activity.
